I have never seen kids feverishly paging through a book as much as they have been flying through all of the toy catalogs we have been getting in the mail and the newspaper. Holy smokes! Talk about well loved. These paper versions of their fantasies get creased, folded, torn, shredded, and still they are cherished so kids can continue to drool over the toys of their dreams. The other day, my son carried one of these catalogs around ALL DAY, even while he ate lunch, so he could show everyone what he wanted for Christmas.
What a perfect opportunity we have here to encourage our youngsters to read. If they won't read anything else, perhaps they will read for you the description of their favorite toy in all of its glorious detail. I know my daughter has learned new words like "Sale", and "Bonus". Who knew?
