'Tis the Season For Baking

November 29, 2010

The Christmas season is now upon us, and I can’t wait to make (and eat!) some Christmas cookies! I remember when I was little, going to my grandma’s house in the weeks before Christmas for a day of baking. I would help her mix up the dough, cut out the cookies using her huge supply of cookie cutters, and patiently wait for the first batch to come out of the oven and cool enough that I could begin my cookie decorating extravaganza. There were all kinds of colors of icing and sprinkles to use. Spending time in the warm kitchen with my grandma and having fun making tasty Christmas cookies is a childhood memory I hold dear.

Everyone has their favorite cookie recipes, but if you are thinking of trying out a new Christmas cookie recipe this year, try finding one in one of our holiday cooking books.

Here are a few choices:
Christmas Cookies: 50 Recipes to Treasure for the Holiday Season by Lisa B. Zwirn
Taste of Home Christmas Cookies & Candy
Cookie Craft Christmas: Dozens of Decorating Ideas for a Sweet Holiday by Valerie Peterson
Woman's Day Christmas cookies, Candies & Cakes
Christmas Cookies from the Whimsical Bakehouse by Kaye Hansen
