Tiny Desk Concerts
May 07, 2013
Although I've been blogging a lot recently about favorite music, I rarely, if ever, listen to contemporary music. I listen to NPR in the car and at home all day, so there is not a lot of music going on in my life. Maybe that's why all of my favorites trends come from the late 60s and early 70s.
Well, Dave (my husband) and I were listening to Pandora Saturday night and heard the band the Avett Brothers. We both really liked them, and I did a quick YouTube search and found their Tiny Desk Concert. Tiny desk concerts are extremely small video performances recorded live at the desk of All Songs Considered host, Bob Boilen. What a cool job!
Well, since I am a true NPR junkie, I remembered reading the book All Cakes Considered by Melissa Gray, an NPR producer. For a foodie who is an NPR junkie, this book is heaven. Wow, a cookbook filled with anecdotes about all of my favorite NPR staffers, and I actually made a couple of the cakes.
Back to my music theme, I believe this is where I first heard of a tiny desk concert mentioned in All Cakes Considered. Dave and I spent a good hour watching other artists’ tiny desk concerts. And that is our idea of an exciting Saturday night!
