Thoughts on a Mysterious Thursday
March 26, 2012
In March, Thursday’s Mystery Book Club discussed The Drowning Tree by Carol Goodman. We had a great discussion about this book.
The Drowning Tree is full of symbolism. In the beginning, Juno suffers from nightmares. Her husband, Neil, tried to drown her and their daughter 14 years ago. He’s been in an asylum ever since. Now Christine, Juno’s best friend, is found murdered by the river. During the investigation into the murder, Juno finds out that Neil and Christine were in communication. Now Juno must face Neil again and confront her emotions.
One particularly distracting aspect of the story is Goodman’s overuse of Greek myths. If you or your group is looking for a good book to discuss, try this one.
On April 12th, we will discuss A Prisoner of Birth by Jeffrey Archer. Books for the current month’s selection can be picked up at the Blue Ridge Branch.
