There's NO Place Like Liberty for the Holidays!
December 22, 2010
I LOVE LIBERTY! Besides it being one of the best places to live and raise children, (in my ever so humble opinion) the historic downtown Liberty square is a "must see" this time of year. If you haven’t made time to visit, you are truly missing out on a special experience! The store fronts are filled with beautiful holiday displays, and inside you can purchase all types of unique gifts from food to fashion and flowers. There are thousands of beautiful lights framing the stores around the square as well as the Liberty Community Christmas Tree standing tall and proud in front of the Liberty Courthouse.
Historic Downtown Liberty, Inc. invited several non-profit organizations in our area to decorate three-foot trees to be placed around our beautiful downtown square. We accepted the invitation, and our tree was delivered to the library. All we were asked to do was use our imagination and decorate it any way we wanted, with the understanding that it would be outside for approximately 45 days.
Hmmmmmm… What unique library items do we have on hand that could be used to decorate a small tree without a budget, you ask? Library cards! Yes, the “library card tree” stands proudly at the corner of E. Kansas and Water Street near the Coming Home store. Although it didn’t win the Christmas tree decorating contest this year, we thoroughly enjoyed decorating and sharing our creativity with the community.
Whether you are a resident or live in a nearby town, the historic downtown Liberty square is a charming and heartwarming place to visit. Start a new tradition with your family, and enjoy the holiday splendor our beautiful downtown square has to offer! (While you’re there, don’t forget to check out our library card tree!) Merry Christmas!
