There's Just Nothing Like a Good Book!

January 03, 2013

I was recently thumbing through O: the Oprah Magazine which, by the way, I found at my local Mid-Continent Public Library branch, and I ran across an article Oprah wrote. In this article, she writes, "I know for sure that it brings me happiness to explore the world through books without ever having to leave my chair. There is still nothing quite like it: to be lost inside a book, savoring words as if they were spoonfuls of crème brulee, luxuriating in every perfect sentence."

I couldn’t agree with her more. As the years pass, I realize more and more how much I cherish having a book to read. Even with the newest of technology in the form of eReaders, I love the feel of the physical book in my hand. Sometimes, on a long road trip when the scenery becomes scarce, it’s nice to have that book in hand to take you to another more exciting place. Then, there are those times when television just doesn’t seem to be what I need, and I reach down on my "bookshelf" and pull off my latest checkout. And, there is nothing better than curling up in bed at night with a good book!

Only once in my life have I found myself living in a town with no library or book store. It was awful! I am blessed to have access to several MCPL branches within close driving distance, not to mention that I work at one of those branches and have access to books, magazines, and databases whenever I want. SWEET!
