Teen Read Week: Books With Beat
October 18, 2010
It's that time again, Teen Read Week 2010 runs from October 17th - 23rd. How are you going to celebrate? The theme this year is Books With Beat @ your library. The theme is to promote music books, audiobooks, poetry, and more! To get some great suggestions for titles, check out YALSA's (Young Adult Library Services Association) website. To vote on next year's theme, follow this link.
This year's spokesperson is Eve Torres, better known as Diva Eve for WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). One of her favorite books growing up was A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle. To read more about some of her favorite books, or how she thinks reading has helped her become who she is, check out her blog. She announced the Teens' Top Ten winners in a video. Voting is done between August and September every year, so be sure to check back next year to participate. This year, over 8,000 teens voted on their Top Ten. I think this list is pretty right on, and can personally vouch for almost all of these titles!
- Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
- City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
- Heist Society by Ally Carter
- Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
- Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
- Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
- Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen
- If I Stay by Gayle Forman
- Fire by Kristin Cashore
- Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson
So get to it! Start reading one of these great books, or pick out one of your own. Stop by one of MCPL's Teen Book Clubs, or share your love of reading with someone else.
