Star Crossed by Elizabeth Bunce is a thrilling fantasy about a young female thief caught in a snowbound castle who discovers a simmering rebellion against the current rulers of her country.
In a glamorous castle full of Llyvraneth's elite, Digger, a young thief, has disguised herself as Celyn Contrare, a lady-in-waiting to shy young Merista Nemair. Her days are spent dressed in fine clothes, attending to the Lady Merista, navigating court gossip, and charming noblemen over lavish feasts. At night, however, she picks locks, steals jewels, forges documents, and collects secrets. Digger is on the run from the king's Inquisition, and if she is discovered, it will mean her certain death. The devious Lord Daul knows her secret and is blackmailing her to serve as his personal spy in the castle. What she discovers could signal civil war in Llyvraneth. A thief is trained never to get involved. So, taking sides could be the most dangerous job. Copies of the novel are available at the Library.
