Techies Geek Out @ the Library!
February 28, 2012
The American Library Association has declared March 4th - 10th to be Teen Tech Week, which means it's time to really geek out at your local MCPL branch! What do you geek over? Do you tweet in your sleep? Do you dream in html? Would you sooner sacrifice a limb than give up your iPod? Did you know you can turn your geekiness into an exciting career? You can and your libraries need you! Find out more at our Teen Tech Week program at the Parkville Branch on Tuesday, March 6th starting at 6:30 p.m. Bryan Gash and Rolo Aguilera, from our I.T. Department, will be on hand to talk with you about career opportunities for tech geeks in libraries. Libraries are utilizing cutting edge technologies every day and are looking for highly skilled, creative applicants for tech oriented jobs. In our program, you'll get the scoop on which college tracks to choose when thinking about a career in the tech field. You'll also learn some helpful tips about protecting your privacy, creating super-secure passwords, and more! We've toys for you to play with too. We'll have four iPads with music apps and some mixing equipment handy so you get to mix and master your own songs. Each participant will receive a flash drive with a list of links and resources covered in the program. Registration is required, so click here to register! Bryan will be making an encore appearance in a similar program on March 7th at the North Independence Branch at 6:00 p.m. Contact North Independence for more details.
While you're at it, check out the Geek Out @ Your Library Display at Liberty for some great techie reads, visit South Independence on March 10th at 10:00 a.m. and learn how to make your own videos, or contact your favorite local branch to see what they have planned.
