Talking With Dan Eaton of Queen's Club
August 05, 2010
Recently, I had the chance to talk with Dan Eaton, lead singer of Queens Club. Queens Club was recently on the cover of Ink Magazine and their first album Young Giants came out on Tooth and Nail Records earlier this summer.
How long has Queens Club been together?
- Queens Club has been together roughly 2 1/2 years now, we've been touring for about 1 1/2 of those years.
Some say that Young Giant is a dance record, other say it’s more pop/rock, for those who haven’t heard it, how would you describe QC’s sound? Jazz fusion? Acid ska?
- I tend to think of it as a pop record. Its easy to pick on our album saying that its not all the same type of music, but if you go pick up a Natalie Imbruglia record, it might not all sound the same either. But its definitely got rock and its definitely got some dance! Go for it.
What are some of the venues or cities you guys look forward to playing whenever you hit the road?
- I think that the places we are usually most excited to play at are roughly based around the food there. So, Minneapolis is always a great place to play in my opinion because I am vegetarian. But overall, as a band, our favorite restaurant is Santana's Fresh MXN in San Diego. The best burrito I've ever eaten! Otherwise, the Pacific Northwest has always been very kind to QC.
What was it like shooting the video for Less Talk? How many sandwiches did it take to make the video?
- It was a lot of fun. When we pulled into the little town where we were doing the shoot, it was pouring rain, and 90% of the shooting was to be outdoors. But in the morning, the sun shone through and I spent four hours on my back on a plank tied to a trailer bed. So other than some neck pain, it was a very fun shoot. Instead of sandwiches, we were fed some soupy burritos that I don't think settled too well with the other guys.
Local Data:
Favorite BBQ place/ restaurant:
-Gates BBQ sauce is the best
Haley or Schottenheimer?
-Haley is going to take the team all the way this year.
Yost or Pena?
-Ned's got a great attitude, I'm interested to see how he works with the young team we've got. Making a run for the end of the world.
Miscellany:
The double rainbow video or k-strass yo-yo master?
-Double Rainbow, it’s beautiful.
If you had to visit a library in the movies, which library would you rather go to: Shermer High School Library in Breakfast Club or the Venetian library in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?
-Venetian definitely. I LOVE EUROPE!
Daft Punk is doing the soundtrack for Tron Legacy, if QC could do the soundtrack to any movie what would it be?
-It would most definitely be a biopic on Larry Bird.
This weekend Queens Club will be playing Soul Fest in New Hampshire. They will return on August 14th to play at the Youthfront Auditorium in Kansas City. You can check out Dan's side project Motorboater on facebook. Motorboater will be playing at the Bottleneck in Lawrence on August 26th.
