Sweet! It's Time for Raft!

January 04, 2012

Happy 2012! Why not start the new year off right by participating in RAFT? RAFT stands for Reading Aloud Family Time. Studies have shown that parents who read with their children solidify the importance of reading, make reading fun, and strengthen the parent-child relationship.

The rules for RAFT are simple. Register online or pick up an entry form at the library today. Read two chapter books as a family. Log the books you've read onto your RAFT account or return your filled-out paper log to a friendly staff member. Then, take home a copy of Roald Dahl's classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory just for participating. You'll also get a certificate for taking part, and your family's name will be displayed on the wall in the children's programming room upstairs. Did I mention that you'll also get your name entered into a drawing for a copy of the film adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory starring Johnny Depp? You can only win one copy of this year's featured book, but you'll get another raffle ticket for every two chapter books your family reads. More books read=more tickets entered into the movie drawing=a greater chance of winning!

RAFT has officially begun. It takes place from January 3rd-March 3rd. So why wait? Grab a good book or two and set aside some reading time today!

We also invite you to join us for group storytime. Our toddler storytime takes place on Thursday at 10 a.m., and our preschoolers' storytime takes place on Friday at 11 a.m. All storytimes are held in our state of the art children's programming room on the second floor. Ready...set...READ!
