Summertime, Summertime, Sum...Summ...Summertime
June 15, 2011
Ok, now that I've put that refrain in your head...that brings us to my favorite season. Ah, the joys of summer...baseball, camping, road trips, sipping lemonade and reading library books on lazy, sunny days. Nothing really beats summer for relaxing.
In thinking about my favorite summer things, I remembered the fun as a kid of squeezing lemons and mixing them with sugar and water and pouring it all over ice. It took a lot of lemons to make that crisp, refreshing drink, but it was worth it.
On a whim, I just entered the word lemonade into the library catalog and came up with a bunch of titles with that word in them. Some of the ones that caught my interest were Beyond the Lemonade Stand: Starting Small to Make it Big by Bill Rancic and Lemonade: 50 cool Recipes for Classic Flavored and Hard Lemonades and Sparklers by Fred Thompson. For young children, you might try Alex and the Amazing Lemonade Stand by Liz Scott.
Something fun that the North Independence Branch of Mid-Continent Public Library is offering this summer is our Literature and Lemonade program. Visit the library on June 29th at 11:00 a.m., and you'll be treated to lemonade! (Ah...) Also and even better, the Independence Fire Department will be here as our special guests. They will read some stories and show us their fire truck!
After that, the next Literature and Lemonade program will be Having a Ball with Bubbles. Come explore the fun of bubbles on July 27th at 11 a.m.
Call 816-252-0950 to register for these programs or sign up online.
Summertime...ah...!
