Summertime at the Platte City Branch
May 26, 2012
Now that school is out, there’s a lot going on at the Platte City Branch!
The Summer Reading Program has officially begun, and it’s off to a great start! Don’t forget to get your kiddos signed up online so they can win free books and prizes. Teens are also able to participate in the reading program by reading books and writing book reviews. Each book review earns teens a library buck that can be redeemed for free young adult books or other prizes. They also have the option of paying off their library fines, replacing library cards, or paying for computer print outs.
Summertime also means that we’re having plenty of FREE programs for families at the branch. Need something to do with the kids for an afternoon? Check out our Events Page for all the great activities at Platte City and surrounding branches. We’re having a variety exciting programs ranging from exotic animals, a magical Dome Theater that shows movies inside, and the ever popular Mr. Stinky Feet making his Platte City return!
And don't forget our preschool storytimes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. and Toddler storytime on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. These programs will continue through July and are always fantastic air-conditioned fun.
For those of you with kids reading at a slightly higher level, we now offer a chapter book read-aloud book club for school-age children who are home for the summer. This is held during our normal storytime hour on Tuesday.
So you see, you don’t have to feel bored sitting at home during summer vacation. There’s always something going on here at the Platte City Branch, and we’re excited to have our customers come in and check us out!
