Summer Goes So Fast
July 01, 2011
Here it is only the first part of July, and yet, it feels like summer is half over. I think the reason summer seems to go so fast is because of all the activities and the long days. And even though a lot of people complain about the heat, I feel the warm days also contribute to time passing by so fast. Think about it, in the winter when the sun has set by 6:00 p.m., you’re pretty much stuck inside. However, in the summer, it is still light out at 8:30 p.m., giving you plenty of time to enjoy whatever outdoor activity you like. In Kansas City, there are so many cool things to do in the summer: Worlds of Fun, Royals Games, Sporting KC (soccer) games, Starlight Theatre, or even a walk on the Plaza.
July also means that MCPL's summer reading program is half over. At the Raytown Branch, we are having a very successful program this year. The participants and staff have been very enthusiastic about signing up. One of the keys to our staff enthusiasm is the fact that pages, clerks, and even the assistant manager take a turn at manning the SRP sign up desk, which helps to get everyone involved. Also, the children can interact with the staff and get to know them as more than just someone who checks out books.
There is still plenty of time to get started in the Summer Reading Program. Stop by any MCPL branch or sign-up online.
