Summer Camp...or Why I Would Spend 9 Whole Days Sweating Profusely as My Summer Vacation
June 23, 2010
Ah, summer camp! I'm sure many of you are attending some sort of camp this summer: Boy Scout camp, Girl Scout camp, church camp, band camp, etc. Tomorrow morning I will be setting off for 9 days at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. This is the second year I've returned to Bartle as an adult. The first year I was back, it felt as if I had never left. Being there brings back a lot of memories...
- Hiking to the General Store in Iconium for a Peach Nehi float: ice cream never tasted better than when you've hiked 5 miles in 95 degree weather to get it.
- Goofy camp songs: even after 20+ years, I still remember all the lyrics to "The Cat Came Back".
- Call night: all you Foxmen out there know what I'm talking about...
- Opening and closing campfires: I must confess I get a little choked up over "The Hills of Osceola".
Why don't you share some of your favorite camp memories or activities with us in the comments?
PS - thank goodness for the battery powered fan! Anybody have any spare D-cell batteries they could loan me?

Boy Scout camp
If you've ever been to Osceola then you know what I mean, it goes by too fast! The fabled iconium is awesome but I only got to go there once, camp needs to be longer. If you agree write a comment and tell me.
