Well, summer is in full swing. My boys are getting ready to go to H. ROE Bartle Scout Reservation for a 10-day camp. This is their third year attending and they love it. They do all sorts of activities from swimming to hiking. They also get a chance to complete merit badges they would not normally have the time to do. Things like bird-study, weather, rifle-shooting, wood carving, and leatherwork. They will also complete many service projects during those 10 days. Needless to say they will not have much down time and they come home exhausted but full of stories.
This got me thinking of all the available camps out there. There is a camp out there for just about everyone. Summercamps.com lists numerous camps from faith-based camps to sports camps to art camps. There are also many special-needs camps out there specializing in everything from asthma to speech to weight loss. You can narrow your search by state or length of the camp. You may also search for summer camps in the Mid-Continent Public Library collection.
So, if you don’t want to listen to your kids complain they are bored for the next month until school starts, look into sending them to a camp. You might just find something that is still available.
