Summer Is Almost Here!

April 17, 2012

Well, the unofficial beginning of summer is two months away. Backyard barbeques, trips to the lake, and outdoor activities mean that wearing shorts, bathing suits, and sleeveless tops is just around the corner. And I have yet to lose any of the weight I gained over the fall and winter. I was rudely shocked into reality when I began switching out my fall/winter wardrobe for my spring/summer one, and I realized that the vast majority of my clothes don’t fit me anymore! So, it’s time to get serious about losing the extra pounds and inches I’ve been holding on to for too long now.

In the past, the easiest way for me to lose weight has been to embrace a low-carb eating plan. I love meat, cheese, and eggs, so "doing Atkins" has been a pretty painless way to go. I just haven’t been able to get started! But, I’m going to do it this time, as well as incorporating a fitness routine into my life. My dog is always begging to go for a walk, so that’s where I’ll start.

Publicly confessing my weakness hasn’t been easy, but I’m going on record so I’ll feel accountable to get in better shape by Memorial weekend. I’ll let you know if I succeeded!

MCPL has lots of great resources for dieting, healthy eating, and exercising. Here are just a few:

How We Did It

Submitted by Anonymous on July 5, 2012 - 7:31pm.

Thank you for mentioning my book, How We Did It. In it, I interview about 30 people, asking each person how they lost weight and how they keep it off. Every person used a different weight loss plan -- Atkins, South Beach, Thin Within, Curves, Body for Life, Nutrisystem, the Zone -- you name it, it's in here! People lost anywhere from 20 pounds to 220 pounds. They are an inspiring bunch of people! With each person's story, I share information about the weight loss plan and how it works, so that the reader can decide whether the plan might work for them. I wrote the book after losing 30 pounds myself. I just want everyone to know they can do it, too!
