Suffering from Twinkie Withdrawal?
January 11, 2013
By now, who hasn't heard about the death of the Twinkie? Though it's likely that Hostess's brands and assets will be sold off to other companies soon; for the time being, the Twinkie is a rare commodity. So why not try and make your own?
The Homemade Pantry: 101 Foods You Can Stop Buying & Start Making by Alana Chernila is just the book you'll need. Chernila provides recipes for you to make all sort of packaged and specialty foods at home, including a very similar-looking "Cream-filled snack cake."
Or, perhaps you have the opposite problem and hoarded one too many boxes before they sold out? Twinkies really don't have an infinite shelf life, no matter what you may have heard, so enjoy them. And if you've somehow become bored with plain old Twinkies, there's a solution for that as well: The Twinkies Cookbook: an Inventive and Unexpected Recipe Collection from Hostess. There are all kinds of recipes in this book, including "Twinkie Jell-O Dessert," "Pigs in a Twinkie," and a rather frightening one involving a Twinkie-stuffed roast turkey. You're welcome.
