Step Back into the Past
February 24, 2011
The Excelsior Springs Branch is offering two special programs that will take a look at our past. The first program will take a look at life in 19th Century Ray County. You will get a chance to see artifacts and clothing from the 1800’s, as well as learn more about life during this time period. This program is called Ray County in the 1800’s and it takes place on Thursday, March 3rd at 6:30 pm.
The second program focuses on Jesse James, his brother Frank and the Civil War. While Frank, the elder brother, answered the call to arms and went to fight in the war, Jesse was too young to join and stayed behind to help work on the family farm. Eventually, both brothers ended up fighting in the war and went on to become legendary outlaws. An historical interpreter from the James Farm will be at the library to tell us more about the James brothers and the Civil War. This program is called Jesse James and the Civil War. It will be held on Thursday, March 17th at 6:30 pm.
