Staycation Anyone?
June 21, 2012
Summer brings thoughts of vacations and trips out of town. However, it is not always possible to leave town for an extended vacation. Those of us living in or near Kansas City are fortunate to have a variety of places we can go for short get-a-ways. Whether you are looking for outdoor fun, shopping and dining, or a touch of history, it all can be found in the Kansas City area.
If you are interested in family history, pick a day and travel to the Midwest Genealogy Center. Located at 3440 S. Lee’s Summit Road in Independence, it contains a wealth of family history. Spend a hot day in cool air conditioning researching your family. Other historical places to visit include Missouri Town and Fort Osage. The Truman Library has a wonderful collection of items from Truman’s presidency. For fun, check out Haunted Kansas City Missouri by Angela Cox. Visiting haunted places might be a different sort of entertainment.
If you want to be outside, Longview Lake and Blue Springs Lake have marinas, boat launching, and sand swimming beaches. Hiking Kansas City: the Complete Guide to More Than 125 Hiking and Walking Trails in the Kansas City Area can give you an idea of where to go for exploration and exercise.
If shopping and dining is more of your interest, Eat.Shop.Kansas City is a guide to inspired, locally owned eating and shopping establishments. Take a day or two to explore different shops and restaurants in the area.
This is just a small list of attractions in the Kansas City area. To find other places to visit, check out our Web Resources Page. You can find a list of area attractions with links to their web sites. I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable summer.
