A Squirrelly Time of the Year
January 20, 2011
Have you hugged your squirrel today?
You might not know it because it's not exactly a major holiday, but January 21st is Squirrel Appreciation Day.
Squirrel Appreciation Day is an opportunity to enjoy and appreciate your tree climbing, nut gathering, neighborhood squirrels. It's held in mid-winter when food sources are scarce for squirrels and other wildlife. Sure, squirrels spend all fall gathering and "squirreling " away food. But, their supplies may not be enough. And, the variety of food is limited. So, give them an extra special treat today to supplement their winter diets. You aren't the only one who enjoys a few nice nuts, after all!
So if you're looking to help out your furry friends, or perhaps squirrel away a few books for yourself, try celebrating this holiday.
Though I do admit, it is a tad nutty.

the enemy!
As a bird feeder, this is my enemy. A cute, furry enemy. The best approach I've found is simply to give them something they like at a location away from the feeders.
