Squirrel Awareness Month
October 23, 2012
Here's one I bet you didn't know; October is National Squirrel Awareness Month. How did I find this out? From Chase's Calendar of Events, the much touted book for us library displayers and bloggers. Just browsing through this book, you can find some really interesting events. There is a website, as well; squirrelloversclub.com is the name of this site. Now, some people don't appreciate squirrels like these folks. But, it was a fun website to visit.
For our branch, we are celebrating by bringing out our favorite Junior Easy squirrel books, like Earl the Squirrel and the always popular, candidate for vice president, Scaredy.
Squirrels are thought to be able to predict winters, too. So if you see squirrels with very bushy tails, there is a tough winter ahead. Many people believe:
- Squirrels gathering nuts in a flurry will cause snow to gather in a hurry.
So, watch the squirrels this month. They may be helping you prepare for winter.

squirrels
I have heard of squirrels and their nut gathering and its relation to the winter forecast. Therefore, I am really looking forward to all the snow we are supposed to be getting! The squirrels have been gathering nuts and burying them in our garden for 6 weeks. If the ground is to hard they look to my flower boxes off of the deck! They are constantly taunting our dogs and eating the flowers! Flower eating really surprised me. Even on some levels they really irritate me I think they are adourable. Crazy me!
