Spread the Word…and Peanut Butter!!

November 13, 2012

It’s November! Time for turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, and…peanut butter! November is National Peanut Butter Lovers Month. In honor of this delicious spread, here are some unusual facts about peanut butter according to peanutbutter.com:

Americans eat three pounds of peanut butter per person per year which is enough to cover the floor of the Grand Canyon.
The average american child will eat 1500 peanut butter sandwiches by the time he/she graduates from high school.
Arachibutyrophobia is the fear of peanut butter getting stuck to the roof of your mouth.
Peanut butter can be used to remove gum from hair, fabric, and other materials.
People on the east coast prefer smooth peanut butter and people on the west coast prefer crunchy.

Some suggestions to celebrate National Peanut Butter Lovers Month include:

Create a birdfeeder using a pinecone coated with peanut butter.
Make your own peanut butter.
Bake with peanut butter.
Dance to the “Peanut Butter and Jelly” song!

There are even a number of books available about peanut butter including:

From Peanut to Peanut Butter by Robin Nelson
The Magic of Peanut Butter: 100 New and Favorite Recipes by Skippy
Peanut Butter Planet: Around the World in 80 Recipes from Starters to Main Dishes to Desserts by Robin Robertson

So spread the word, or better yet, the peanut butter… on a slice of bread, some crackers, or even a banana. Then pour yourself a glass of milk and celebrate. It’s National Peanut Butter Lovers Month!
