Some Call it Evolution, Some Call it Life
September 18, 2012
Two years ago, my granddaughter committed to two seasons of soccer. She was doing this because she was told it would be fun, not because she wanted to do this. This was part of her journey--she would try it. Her lack of passion for soccer was all over her, written in big letters. Thankfully, her parents did not force another season. Here we are two years later, and I am watching her play seventh grade volleyball for her middle school. She could not be more secure in her own skin right now. She loves volleyball and learning how to be better at it. She is all over the court.
This evolution over the past two years of a young child into a young lady secure with her choices and passionate about sports has been so fun to watch and live. Watching her skills evolve is fascinating for this grandmother. I guess I am saying to parents--take the time to see this with the grandparents. I guess I am saying to all that growing up is a very personal journey, and sometimes acceptance from parents is the most important part as well as the most difficult ingredient for parents to provide. I guess I am saying, it is the easiest ingredient for us grandparents to provide. So, maybe that is why it takes a village to complete the journey.......
