So What’s With This Steven Spielberg Guy, Huh?
May 03, 2011
This guy is crazy-talented, that’s what, and he’s super busy. The guy’s got sixteen projects under his belt where is he producing, and three that he is either currently or scheduled to direct. Spielberg is, perhaps, most famous for his groundbreaking contributions to the science fiction genre. He brought us the classic E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977). He’s also a part of the team that brought us the Indiana Jones films (you can forget about the fourth one, if you’d like - I try to) and, of course, Jurassic Park (1993).
Spielberg isn’t just a science fiction filmmaker. He’s made vast contributions to all types of genres. He took viewers to the beaches of Normandy, France in his 1998 war epic Saving Private Ryan. He also produced the critically-acclaimed HBO series Band of Brothers. After sending us into the fiery depths of The Temple of Doom (1984), he took us to the harsh South in an adaptation of Alice Walker’s The Color Purple (1985). In 1991’s Hook, he reminded us what it means to be a kid when we flew with Robin Williams and Julia Roberts, first across the Atlantic, then past the Second Star to the Right and straight on ‘til Morning. In 1987, we saw through the eyes of a young British boy (played by a young Christian Bale, no less talented than he is today) living in a prisoner-of-war camp in China during the Japanese occupation in Empire of the Sun. He’s taken us all over the place.
He writes books, he designs video games (Medal of Honor), and he produces multiple TV series. The man is all kinds of genius, and he shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. If you want to take look at all his past and current projects, just visit IMDb.com (Internet Movie Database).
