So Fun to Sew

When I was 13, I stayed with my grandmother, Rhoda, for a while. Granny, as we called her, was born in 1891. Because Granny believed girls should learn how to sew, she decided to teach me how to make quilts. It took a long time to cut out all of the blocks needed for a quilt! The blocks were made of corduroy, and they were called "big blocks." Granny had a treadle type sewing machine, which she taught me to use. We pinned the blocks in a row and then sewed them together. That was how I made my first quilt. I enjoyed making quilts so much that since then, I have made several more and have given some away for gifts.

Do you teach a class ? I would love to learn to sew and make a quilt.

Thank you for responding to my blog. I wish I had time to teach quiltmaking. Mid-Continent Libraries have a lot of books on quiltmaking which are very helpful. Mid-Continent also publishes a "Beyond the Books" programs catalog which is free and lists the programs from all of the branches. This catalog listed a quilting program on October 20, 2012 at the Mid-Continent Kearney Branch. It was titled: Fall Quilt Show and it mentioned the Kearney Quilt Gatherers.
