Snow Day Fun!

January 13, 2012

Every kid waits for the TV announcement of a snow day. If your children need a creative nudge to get them (and you) through the day while home from school, here are a few ideas.

Give your kids spray bottles filled with water and a couple drops of food coloring. Send them out to decorate their snow forts with color. Your kids will also love using sand box toys as molds and buckets to build castles in the snow. Use bath tub boats as sleds for castles residents.

For a refreshing winter treat, make Snow Ice Cream. You will need a large mixing bowl of fresh snow, 1 or 2 cups of whole or evaporated milk, 1 or 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, and 1/2 to 1 cup of sugar. Bring the bowl of fresh snow in to the kitchen. Quickly stir in enough milk to get the consistency of ice cream. Start with a little milk and keep adding until it is creamy. Don't worry if you accidentally add too much. Just go scoop up some more snow! When you get the consistency you want, stir in the vanilla and sugar. Try different flavors like maple extract, peppermint, or chocolate syrup. Snow ice cream should be eaten right away. Putting it in the freezer for later is okay, but that will change the consistency.

With all of these activities at your fingertips, you will be as anxious as the kids for the next snow day!

you can be sure the reason we haven't had any snow is because of this blog :)
like washing your care ensures the rain.
What is everyone doing this winter? I love to curl up and read a book on snowy days. I'm doing that anyway but it is not as much fun.
We are already cleaning up our yard since the snow isn't covering it.

We have been a little short on snow. But, be careful what you wish for! :)
