Shiver Me Timbers Matey!
July 24, 2013
What about rotten food, lice, rats, dysentery, and scurvy, (“oh my!”)? Ahh, this is the pirate life. Want to experience the golden age of piracy? Put on your skull and crossbones bandana and head to Union Station where "The Real Pirates" traveling exhibit will be on display through January 5, 2014.
The exhibit will fill the gallery on the Station’s lower level and feature more than 200 objects, including scads of gold and silver coins, cannons, swords, personal items, and a replica of an actual 1717 pirate ship that visitors are welcome to climb aboard. Also of interest, if pirates captivate your imagination, is our own library display of "All Things Pirate." This features books, movies, and even a treasure chest complete with jewels and coins. Indulge your inner pirate with choices such as:
- The Book Of Pirates by Jamaica Rose & Captain Michael MacLeod
- Black Beard by Angus Konstam
- The Mammoth Book Of Pirates: Over 25 True Tales of Devilry and Daring Edited by Jon E. Lewis
