Sharing a Love of Reading
October 20, 2011
October is a special month for me as our family is celebrating the arrival of a new grandson and the 90th birthday of my mom. The age of technology makes it so easy to stay in touch with family, but nothing compares to the joy of holding that new baby boy or of eating birthday cake with Mom. For most of my life, Mom had the only fall birthday in our family, and I know she is excited to have a great grand-baby joining her to celebrate this wonderful season. She and baby Landon now have an extra special bond.
Mom and I share a love of reading, and we often talk about books we have read. Landon’s older sister also loves to read books. I started checking out books for her when she was little. One of her first loves was Webster J. Duck. She has progressed to Harry Potter, and we enjoy discussing what happens in each book. My hope for Landon is that he will grow to be healthy and strong, and along the way develop a love for books and the library. That will give him another way to bond with his great- grandmother, his grandmother, and his big sister.
