Schedule a Free Tour of the Kauffman Center!

November 30, 2011

The vision of the Kauffman Center is to enrich the lives of everyone in the community through extraordinary and diverse performing arts experiences. The Center will be home to resident organizations, the Kansas City Ballet, Lyric Opera, and the Kansas City Symphony. The Muriel Kauffman Theatre will feature pop and country entertainers, Broadway productions, comedy shows, and more.

There are 1,800 seats designed in a semicircle configuration that brings audiences closer to the performers. The design was inspired by the great opera houses of Europe.

The Helzberg Hall will serve as the performance home of the Kansas City Symphony and will host other artists and performance groups. There are 1,600 seats in an oval shape with the farthest seat just 100 feet from the stage. The centerpiece of the Hall is a Casavant Freres pipe organ. The organ has 79 stops, 102 ranks, and 5,548 pipes. It is one of the finest in the country.

To get a special look inside, schedule a free guided tour! Tours are offered most Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Reservations are required and tours last approximately 60 minutes.

(Information above taken from the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts website at www.kauffmancenter.org).

Visit the website to book your free tour online. Click on Visit the Center and then Take a Tour to view the calendar. Right now, all the dates are booked through the end of the year. I called and asked when the next dates would be posted. I was told that the January calendar will be online the first week of December and to check often because the spots are getting taken within three days of posting.

From the information online, I was not sure if the group size of 15 meant that each group had to have 15 or if you were added into other groups to total 15 people. I was told that you reserve the number of tickets you need, and you are matched with others into a tour group totaling 15.

Contact Jstapleton@kauffmancenter.org for groups larger than 15 or with any other questions. Or call 816- 994-7200, option 2.

Happy Touring!
