The Same Magic, Only Digital!

May 01, 2012

While discussing blog topics with my department yesterday, my manager says, "Mariah, why don't you write about the fact that we now have Harry Potter in eMedia?"

Cue the glittering excitement in my eyes!

I can remember years ago talking with my coworkers about my supreme displeasure at being unable to download the series for convenient and portable listening. (At this point, eBooks weren't even a glimmer of a thought in my mind, and instead, I was all about the audio.) There were conspiratorial whispers about why this was, but I'm not sure I ever really knew the whole truth. But boy how I wanted Harry Potter on my Zune! (Yes, I have a Zune. Yes, it's first generation. No, touching the screen does nothing. But we're digressing!)

Like many of you, I finished this series years ago, but I try to reread it every few years, just to relive the magic. And it pleases me greatly to announce that it is no longer necessary to juggle 20 discs if you want to listen to the story on your anciently outdated MP3 player! (Or shiny new one, as the case may be.) And though "way back when" eBooks weren't really on my mind, I am just as breathlessly excited about the fact that we now have this title in both Kindle and Adobe EPUB formats in OverDrive!

So, until the next great J.K. Rowling title comes along, why not re-experience everything you loved about Harry Potter... digitally?

I think some of these choices are very good because reading makes us smarter by using bigger words and using bigger words make even sound smarter and that is a very very good thing
