Restart That Old Hobby of Yesteryear

May 06, 2011

Most of us have a hobby that helps fill spare time, or that we really plan and devote time to. We do something that is relaxing and enjoyable. Sometimes, it’s something we did it a long time ago and sometimes it’s ongoing.

Over time, I have dabbled with woodworking, model making, paint by number, coins, and running. If you are reading this, reading would probably be one of your enjoyable pastimes. Your library is, hopefully, a good source of ideas and projects for you.

Do you have an activity from the past you would like to reactivate? The library can help with that. We have great books and videos on woodworking, painting, coins, knitting, and other hobbies. In addition, there are many programs each season with experts and hobbyists showing how to do these things. These programs are listed in our publication Beyond the Books and on the Library website.

The price of gas is at about an all-time high, and travel is expensive. How about spending some pleasurable time with your old hobby? Its tools and materials are fun to work with, and you feel pride with the results of your projects! Your local Library Branch has materials with tips, tricks and projects to make it all more enjoyable. See you soon!
