Resistance Is Futile
March 13, 2012
OK, Facebook, I give up. You win. I'll "Get Timeline" now, since you're just going to force it on me in a week anyway. I know that I always say that THIS is the last straw, that this time I'm going to quit. But who am I kidding? I can't quit Facebook. I'm hooked.
I've been on Facebook since 2007, having joined as an alternative to the train wreck that was MySpace. What initially drew me to Facebook then was the simplicity of its layout, as opposed to the jumbled messes that were most MySpace pages. With each update to Facebook, I've always been that "guy who wants the old Facebook back." After the last major change (the "ticker" or, that part on the right side that you never look at), I tried to get people to jump ship to Google+, but it's still pretty dead over there.
On March 20, everyone on Facebook will get the Timeline format. When that happens, or if you've already switched over, make sure you review your privacy settings. There are new privacy settings for Timeline, and you'll want to make sure you understand them. If you're like me, social networking has been a learning curve, and you might not want some of those old posts or photos on display for all the world to see.
Eventually, I'll come to accept Timeline. Once that happens, Facebook will come up with yet another redesign. AND THAT WILL BE THE LAST STRAW! BY GRABTHAR'S HAMMER, BY THE SUNS OF WARVAN, I WILL QUIT!
Still wanting the old Facebook back,
Jeff D.
