Reading Quirks
October 05, 2010
Many people I know have weird little things that they do when they get a new book to read. Some people flip to the last chapter and read it first. Some people flip through and look at all of the pictures if there are any. Some people smell their books.
If the book has a dust jacket, I like to open the book as much as possible and see what the cover looks like underneath. If it is a kids’ book, the hard cover looks the same as the dust jacket. If it is an adult fiction book however, the type of hard cover sometimes reflects the style or tone of the book. Another thing I like to do when I read fiction is see how many pages are in the book. I always look to see exactly how many pages of the story there are, not counting any extra material. I never actually use this information (the number of pages, that is). I guess I just find it fascinating to discover how much I’ll be reading.
So let me know, mostly so I don’t feel like an oddball for having weird habits. What are your reading quirks?
