"I won’t describe what I look like. Whatever you’re thinking, it’s probably worse." - Auggie PullmanIn
In Wonder, an amazing book by R. J. Palacio, fifth grader Auggie Pullman is about to go to school with other kids for the first time in his life. He’s a bright, hardworking, Star Wars fan, a normal kid in every way – except for his face.
Though Wonder was written for middle graders, the Kearney Branch Adult Book Group just finished it for our August book discussion. When I described the story last month, some members were reluctant to crack the cover. How could a book about a deformed child be anything but gut-wrenchingly sad?
EVERYONE LOVED IT! From page-one, we all adored Auggie. He’s such a charmer. The strong cast of family and friends around him are just as engaging. We smiled, and we laughed out loud! Yes, there were scenes that wrung out the tears, but they just made Auggie’s final triumph all the sweeter.
Whether you’re a kid or an adult, don’t miss this wonderful novel! Check out Wonder by R. J. Palacio.
