RAFT: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

February 14, 2012

Find the golden ticket! RAFT is heading down the chocolate river this year! Join us for an adventure full of Oompa Loompas, everlasting gobstoppers, and endless amounts of candy. Don’t miss out on your chance to earn a free book, try to win a DVD or candy basket, and go on a treasure hunt! You’ll get all of this if your family participates in our RAFT program.

What is RAFT? It stands for Read Aloud Family Time. If your family reads 2 chapter books from the library together, you will earn a hardback copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory AND a chance to win the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie on DVD OR a basketful of Wonka Candy! Your family also gets to glue a piece of candy on the chocolate river! Be sure to finish a second list and join us at the Wonka factory for a sweet treasure hunt around the library! Each child will receive their very own treasure chest.

If you’re worried that your children are too young to listen to chapter books, we have very easy chapter books displayed in the Wonka factory area of our branch. Just look for the hanging candy. These books are easy enough for young children to listen to and still include wonderful, colorful pictures. We hope that RAFT will encourage families to spend time together and foster a love of reading in children.

RAFT ends on March 3, 2012, so there’s still plenty of time to read. Sign up and log your books at the branch or online at home. Once your family reads 2 chapter books, simply come into the library and let us know. We hope to see you soon!
