RAFT—Having Fun or Helping Your Child Succeed?

January 26, 2012

Actually you are doing both.

The RAFT (Read Aloud Family Time) is a great program to do with your family. There are many benefits when participating in this program.

  • You get to spend some one-on-one time with your child(ren). No interruptions from the TV!!
  • Reading aloud at an early age helps children learn the literacy skills they need before starting school.
  • Even though your children are older and they can read on their own, it is still beneficial to read aloud with them. They can read to you also and it helps develop their skills as well as their vocabulary.
  • Parents and guardians are very important in helping to learn to read because they know their child the best.

So, as you wonder if participating in the RAFT program is really important, it is. You are making a big difference in their future when school work will be so much easier.

You will also be building some great memories.
