Queen City of the Trails
August 24, 2011
Did you know that Independence, Missouri is called the "Queen City of Trails"? It was the starting point for the Oregon, Santa Fe and California trails westward. There's a lot of history here where they began.
As you can learn from the Roving Reporter video here, to discover more about these trails and where they began, we have an amazing museum. The National Frontier Trails Museum covers the history of these three trails, the personal stories of the pioneers who traveled them, and has many interactive exhibits and artifacts to help you learn about the Westward Expansion.
The museum is open from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Admission ranges from $3-$6, and you can get a discount coupon for two admissions for the price of one on the City of Independence website!
So if you'd like to travel into some local history, check it out!
