The Perfect Summer Job
June 14, 2013
When I think of summer, I think of the lake, Dari-B ice cream cones, and children playing at the park. I picture all of these things while working at the Library and think, "If I could only think of a job where I could get paid to enjoy summer!"
Then Laura, our Summer Reading Program genius, asks me if I want to help with Storytimes at the Park on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. through June and July. I help with regular storytime at our branch, along with Terri, and love it, so I agreed. Laura picked out excellent themes and books, I planned out corresponding crafts for each theme, and we were all set to go!
On the first of Storytime at the Park, I was a little apprehensive. How would it be different than storytime in the Library? Would we have a good turn out? Would the craft go as planned, or would it flop?
All of these fears were quelled as the children started arriving and the event unfolded. The kids loved the books and the craft. They enjoyed snack time, which the city of Excelsior Springs Park and Recreation kindly provided. It was then that I realized that my "dream summer job" and my real job met up, at Siloam Mountain Park on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. Enjoying summer has never been more fun or educational! I hope to see you there!
Until next time,
Excelsior Springs Branch
