The Perfect Pet

December 02, 2011

Have you been looking for a pet that’s truly non-allergenic, doesn’t shed, never makes a mess, and is not expensive to feed? Look no further than your yarn basket. You can knit the perfect pet. Once you see these adorable patterns, you will need two pets or three...or six!

Love dogs? Check out this book: Knit Your Own Dog: Easy-to-Follow Patterns for 25 Pedigree Pooches by Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne. You are only stitches away from owning a shaggy Afghan Hound, a sassy Scottish Terrier, a wrinkled English Bulldog (without the drooling!), or one of 22 other amazing breed look-alikes. How about a pony or a chicken...or even a snake? Try Knit & Purl Pets: 20 Patterns for Little Pets with Big Personalities by Claire Garland. The author says of the patterns, "Every creature has the mischievous quirkiness that we expect from our animals—just knit them up and watch them come to life before your eyes." So, find a new friend in a guinea pig, cat, rabbit or dinosaur. Perhaps you want a pet that is more incredible. The Big Book of Knitted Monsters by Rebecca Danger will fill your need. It is 79 pages of mischievous, lovable toys like Charlie the Ceiling Monster, Bea the Basement Monster, and Kat the Kitchen Monster.

And for those rare persons who are not smitten with pets...knit a cake! (See Knitted Cakes by Susan Penny.)
