Out of This World
December 28, 2010
It's time to move out of our comfort zone, get our gears turning and experiment with reading a genre we normally never read. There are no rules, except perhaps, Nancy Pearl's Rule of 50. "If you still don't like a book after slogging through the first 50 pages, set it aside. If you're more than 50 years old, subtract your age from 100 and only grant it that many pages. "
We'll start with Science Fiction, and do Fantasy in the next blog. These suggestions are by no means all inclusive, and you will find there is a whole new world in the Science Fiction genre (pun intended).
If you never read Science Fiction, here are some suggestions based of the types of books you normally enjoy.
|Adventure||Orson Scott Card--Enders Game||Larry Niven--The Mote in God's Eye||Frederik Pohl--Gateway|
|Historical||Kage Baker--Garden of Iden||Kim Stanley Robinson--The Years of Rice and Salt||Harry Turtledove--American Empire series|
