Our Furry Companions
November 13, 2012
A fellow colleague and dog lover recommended a book to me that I would also recommend. The title is Through a Dog's Eyes: Understanding Our Dogs by Understanding How They See the World by Jennifer Arnold. MCPL carries it in book and audiobook form. I listened to it on CD and really enjoyed it. It gives information about her "Kindness Teaching" methods and more. She gives insight that you may or may not agree with, but I’m sure you will come away with learning something about dogs and how they see things.
Arnold has also written In a Dog's Heart: A Compassionate Guide to Canine Care, from Adopting to Teaching to Bonding. This book goes into more detail about taking care of a dog. It gives some specific information on food and just some basic sensible information you might find valuable.
Both of these books reflect the love Arnold has for dogs and their purpose in our communities. From that insight, she created Canine Assistants, which is a service dog organization. Twenty years ago, Arnold needed a service dog. There wasn’t a place to get one in her area, so she founded Canine Assistants and has been training and providing service dogs for children and adults with physical disabilities or other special needs ever since. She has helped so many people over the years just by starting something that she needed, not knowing it would grow to be what it is today.
So, take a look at Arnold’s books and her website. You may learn something new about your dog that could change the way you see your furry companions.
