Our Christmas Traditions...Where Did They Come From?
December 06, 2010
Last week, the Edgerton Discovery Club kids made a few Christmas ornaments, and then decorated our Christmas tree. As we worked, we discussed some of our Christmas traditions and where they came from. For example, why do we put up a Christmas tree? Why do we hang our stockings? Where did the tradition of sending Christmas cards come from?
The Christmas Book by Juliana Foster explains where many of our Christmas traditions come from. This little book discusses the traditions of Santa Claus, Christmas cards, stockings, the Christmas tree, caroling, the Yule log, mistletoe, and holly and ivy. It also gives lots of fun ideas for hosting Christmas parties and what to do with that leftover turkey. There are Christmas facts and trivia, as well as tips for choosing the right Christmas tree.
There are more great Christmas miscellanea books to be found at the library. Try these:
