Ordering Microfilm from the Family History Library

All genealogists know about the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah and about their wonderful website. But did you know that you can order microfilm online and have it sent here to the Midwest Genealogy Center? Start by searching the catalog on www.familysearch.org to see what is available. Below find a summary of the charges and instructions for ordering:
- Short term film loan (90 days) - $7.50
- Short term film loan renewal (additional 60 days) - $7.50
- Extended film loan (indefinite loan) - $18.75
- Microfiche loan (any number of fiche) - $4.75
Microfilm may be ordered online at www.familysearch.org. You will first need to set up a free Family Search account. You must also have a personal email account and credit card to place an order. While placing your order, select Mid-Continent Public Library as your affiliate library, and the film will be delivered to the Midwest Genealogy Center for you to view. Familysearch.org will automatically send you an email when your order has shipped and when it has been received here at the Midwest Genealogy Center.

FHL Lookups
Instead of ordering a film and not knowing whether it contains what you want, you might want to request a free lookup. The research firm Rootsonomy provides FREE lookups of books, magazines, fiche, or film at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Simple 2-step process:
1. Locate the desired collection in the FamilySearch Catalog: familysearch.org/#form=catalog OR familysearch.org/eng/library/fhlc/
2. Facebook users can send the request by going to: www.facebook.com/RootsonomyGenealogy and clicking the button "Request Research or a Lookup".
