Olympic Countdown

July 18, 2012

Being a joyful multiple of four, 2012 is the year for the summer Olympics. The running of the torch has already begun, and the start of the competition is less than a month away. We all know the excitement of watching athletes from all over the world compete to be named the best in their sport. This year there are 36 different sports listed on the schedule.

Year after year, new competitors come to the stage, many of which go on to become legends. After all, after the last summer Olympics, there are very few places that the name Michael Phelps is not known. However, even after being a huge fan of the Olympics every time they are held, I was surprised by how many different things I didn’t know about them. I recently discovered the website for the 2012 Olympics, which is a great resource for looking up the schedule, athletes, and events. For instance, everyone knows about the swimming, floor gymnastics, and the triathlon. But did you know, for instance, that there are events such as trampoline or sailing? I definitely didn’t. I highly recommend that you check it out as we all gear up for the Olympic heat that begins on July 27th!
