Oh, the Weather Outside is Frightful...

January 04, 2013

I hate snow.

I confess. I do not believe in a white Christmas. I can live with 70 degrees and sunny every day of the year. However, living in the Midwest doesn’t really make that possible. The recent warm weather gave me hope for the winter…perhaps it would be unseasonably warm with no possibility of inclement conditions.

So imagine my devastation when I turned on the news a few weeks ago to discover that we were in for a WINTER STORM. I listened intently to the weatherman as he predicted 1-3 inches, then 2-4 inches, then 6-10 inches. At this same time, I’m trying to plan our Christmas trip to Indiana to visit family. All the errands I had hoped to run later in the week had to be taken care of immediately in order to avoid unnecessary driving in the snow. Thus, I was not a happy camper.

Perhaps I’m a bit of a worrier. A few inches of snow is not going to make me homebound. I can still come and go as long as the roads are scraped and salted.  The bad weather should be long gone before our flight leaves over the weekend. So I try to make the best of a snowy situation. I simply sit at home with a good book, a cup of hot chocolate, a cat to share my blanket, and forget about what’s happening outside. And dream about a few months down the road when I have my 70 degrees and sunny weather back again.
