The Numbers are In!

Mid-Continent Public Library’s Summer Reading Program made a profound impact on 62,963 participants this summer. With 145,510 books and prizes distributed to Listeners and Readers and 17,059 Library Bucks earned in the Teen Program, this year’s program showed that it is easy to "Dream Big -- Read!"
The Teen Summer Reading Program, "Own the Night," took on a new life this year as teens were encouraged not just to read, but to write book reviews to earn Library Bucks that could be used to purchase books, prizes, and Library services including replacement cards, free prints and copies, and that could even be used through the end of the year to pay down fines.
As an added bonus, five teens were randomly drawn to receive a free Netbook from MCPL. The winners are:
Blue Springs North Branch – Lyndi Weisberg
Blue Ridge Branch – Jazzlynn Testerman
Bucker Branch – Ashley Hahne
Liberty Branch – Chris Hope
North Oak Branch – Naomi Maresch
While these five were our teen grand prize winners, all readers and families who participated came out as winners by learning the power of fun and entertainment that reading can bring!

summer reading program
I am disappointed in this summers program. I asked at my branch how long the bucks could be used and was told through December. Never was I offered a buck. My daughter earned 13 bucks and my son earned 3. My youngest boy earned a free book which he didn't get either. The program didn't even last all summer. My children were disappointed not to be able to get their prizes. We were NEVER asked if we needed to pick up bucks. We did all our stuff on line.Had we known we needed to have an actual b uck given to us, we would have asked for them! NOT at all happy
