Now's Your Chance To Write a Book!
November 05, 2011
Have you always wanted to write a book but just didn’t think you could? If so, www.nanowrimo.org has just the adventure for you...National Write A Novel Month! The annual challenge is geared toward "wanna be" writers, and helps them get off the fence on to some creative writing. Participants log onto the site, begin writing November 1, and finish by November 30. The goal is to write a 50,000-word novel during that time. (That’s about 175 pages.)
Now before you decide there’s no way you can do that, keep in mind that the idea of the challenge is to get a rough draft written...nothing perfect. To quote their website, "Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. This approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly."
And, guess what? You won’t be alone! Last year over 200,000 folks participated! That means, there will be lots of other aspiring writers online to offer encouragement, fun suggestions, and to share ideas with. To join in the fun, MCPL will offer some "write-ins" where you can join fellow writers in person to hash over ideas and get some work done on your book. Plus, while you’re in the library, be sure to peruse our huge selection of "how to" writing books. With any luck, you’ll find just the right thing to help fire up your imagination and get that masterpiece written!
