November's Here!
November 07, 2011
Where has 2011 gone? When I was little and adults told me "time flies when you’re a grown up," I thought they were making that up. Now I know that they were right, and I want to find a pause button or at least an option to make certain times go slower than others. But alas, there is no slow option for life – except for when you’re flying anywhere – time always seems to crawl when you’re on a plane. I blame the lack of scenery for that one; you can only look at fields, clouds and water for so long. (Although I did see the Grand Canyon once – impressive at 30,000 feet – I’ve not seen it from the ground.)
With that in mind, it’s time to turn our attention to that great oft skipped over holiday in the marketing world known as Thanksgiving. It was George Washington who first instituted the first day of thanks, but it wasn’t until 1863 when Abraham Lincoln declared that the fourth Thursday of November would be a national day of thanks in the United States.
Turkey Day will be here before you know it! If you’re looking to try something new this holiday, your local MCPL Branch has a bounty of cookbooks to help you get ideas!
