North Platte High School Teen Book Club Update
January 31, 2011
The North Platte High School Teen Book Club recently discussed Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway. The group was somewhat divided in their opinions of the book, but we had a lot of fun discussing it either way.
Here is a short description of the novel, found here:
Breaking Up Can Make You Famous
California high school student Audrey Cuttler dumps self-involved Evan, the lead singer of a little band called The Do-Gooders. Evan writes, "Audrey, Wait!," a break-up song that's so good it rockets up the billboard charts. And, Audrey is suddenly famous! Now rabid fans are invading her school. People are running articles about her arm-warmers. The lead singer of the Lolitas wants her as his muse. (And the Internet is documenting her every move!) Audrey can't hang out with her best friend or get with her new crush without being mobbed by fans and paparazzi.
Take a wild ride with Audrey as she makes headlines, has outrageous amounts of fun, confronts her ex on MTV, and gets the chance to show the world who she really is.
As a group, we discussed what we would do if we found ourselves in Audrey’s situation; whether or not we think the paparazzi’s treatment of celebrities is out of control, what we would do and feel if our best friend suddenly became famous, and what our parents would say if we were in Audrey’s situation. If you like music and Young Adult novels, then we would definitely recommend this book!
The next North Platte High School Teen Book Club meeting will be held on Friday, February 25, at 7:30 a.m. in the High School Library. We will be discussing Three Little Words by Ashley Rhodes-Courter.
